+ For debugging programs, we have found that the + GNU + debugger gdb is a valuable tool. However, it is noted + that gdb 4.18 is quite broken with respect to debugging C++ + programs. A better choice is to use the older version 4.17 + which works well. If you want to debug multithreaded + programs, you may want to use gdb 5.0 or later, since gdb + 4.17 did not support multiple threads too well. +
